Retired Superior Court Judge Richard J.S. Barlow, Jr.,
Retired Superior Court Judge Richard J.S. Barlow, Jr., 83, died Friday at Harborlights Rehabilitation and Nursing Center .
Born in Trenton, the son of the late Richard Barlow, Sr. and Jane Fine Barlow, he was a judge for many years in Mercer County. He graduated from Trenton High School, Dartmouth College and the University of Pennsylvania Law School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was admitted to the bar in 1953 and was an attorney with the Trenton firm Lenox, Giordano, Devlin & Barlow prior to his appointment to the bench. He presided over several prominent criminal trials and retired in 1991.
Mr. Barlow enjoyed tennis, traveling to Bermuda, and playing with his grandson. He also enjoyed walking in Yardley, where he lived after his retirement. He moved to Massachusetts in 2008.
His wife, Jane M. Barlow, predeceased him, as did a brother and two sisters. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard Barlow and his wife Kathleen Burge of Cambridge, MA., and Michael Barlow of Lawrenceville; a grandson, Kieran Barlow; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday 11:00 a.m. at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home 935 Parkway Ave. in Ewing.
Burial will be in Ewing Cemetery in Ewing.
Calling hours will be Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
