Stephen Niatas, 88, of Hightstown, passed away on Sunday January 29, 2012, at Merwick Care and Rehabilitation Center in Plainsboro, N.J.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, and formerly of Mercerville, where he spent most of his life, Stephen was a resident of Hightstown for the past 12 years.
He was a Pension Counselor for the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation where he retired after 23 years of service.
Stephen was a veteran of the United States Air Force with the 8th Air force 34th Bomb Group. He received many decorations and medals throughout his time in the Air Force. Stephen is a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, AHEPA, and the church choir.
Son of the late George and Anna Dracopoulos Niatas, brother of the late Jason Niatas, nephew of the late Costadina Paraxismos, who raised him after the death of his mother at a young age, he is survived by his wife of 65 years Angela (Zimnes) Niatas of Hightstown, two daughters Joann C. Niatas of Hightstown, and Faith Gulotta of W. Windsor, two grandchildren Anthony and Angela Gulotta, three brothers and one sister-in-law, Angelo, Ulysses, and Jason and wife Mary Ellen, one sister Joann Niatas, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday February 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church 1200 Klockner Rd. in Hamilton.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton.
Calling hours will be Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.
There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.
