Gilbert L. Cheeseman Sr., 81, of Yardley, PA., passed away on Wednesday February 22, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Langhorne, PA.

Born in Hazleton, PA., and formerly of Hamilton, where he spent most of his adult life, Gilbert resided in Yardley for the past year.

He was a Logistics Coordinator for the United States Post Office, Main Distribution Center on Rt. 130 in Hamilton, where he retired in 1994 after 35 years of service.

Gilbert was a graduate of Hazle Township High School class of 1948, where he played varsity football as a star defensive tackle, and was awarded a scholarship to Southern Mississippi State.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Midway.

Gilbert was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Son of the late Roland T. and Gertrude Schrader Cheesman Sr., and brother of the late Roland Jr., James Sr., and Elton Sr., he leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years Gloria S. Cheeseman of Yardley, PA., two sons and a daughter-in-law Gilbert L. and Oksana Cheeseman Jr. of Yardley, PA., with whom he resided, Gregory J. Cheeseman Sr. and fiance Mary Wertz of Hamilton Square, five grandchildren Gregory Jr., Tyler, Gilbert III, Aleksandra, and Anastasia, one sister Catherine Mohan of Bethleham, PA., and many nieces, nephew, and cousins, including Eileen Duffy, and many friends and neighbors.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home 1863 Hamilton Ave. in Hamilton.Visit www.murphyfh.com.

Burial with military honors will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton.

Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., and Monday from 12:00 noon until time of services at the fuenral home.
