Josefina V. Obed, 76, of West Trenton passed away Wednesday at the University of Princeton Medical Center.
Born in Manila, Philippines, she immigrated to the USA in 1973 and has been a West Trenton resident since 1979.
Mrs. Obed was a Clinical Registered Dietitian. She was employed by Trenton Psychiatric Hospital for over 15 years; she then went to work with the North Princeton Developmental Center in Skillman where she retired with over 10 years of service.
She was a graduate of the University of the Philippines with her bachelor’s degree. She went on to earn her master’s degree from Drexel University, Philadelphia in 1965.
Mrs. Obed was a gourmet cook. For 12 years, Mrs. Obed was taken care of by her daughter Rita, who served as her medical advocate in hospitals and all matters of health.
Daughter of the late Manuela Kalaw and Valente Villegas, Ph.D., and sister of the late Edmundo and Alberto Villegas, she is survived by her husband, Reynaldo N. Obed; her daughter, Leonora Rita Obed of West Trenton; her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Jose and Norma Villegas of Carlinville, IL; 4 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Teresa Daza and Estela Cayco, both of Manila, Philippines, Marie and Angel Mangahas of Los Banos, Philippines and, Fe and Abe Baclig of Cagayan de Oro, Philippines; also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave. on Saturday 9:15am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 West Upper Ferry Road, West Trenton, NJ 08628 at 10am. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Hamilton. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8pm and on Saturday from 8 until 9:15am at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
