July 24, 1940 - April 27, 2019
Anne passed away peacefully on April 27, after a brief illness. She is survived by daughter Kathryn and son-in-law David Crozier; son Bill Lund and daughter-in-law Linda; her grandchildren Jack Lund, Ariel Lund and Amber Lund (all of whom she was so proud). She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Fred Lund; her parents Chester and Catherine Ciszewski; her brother John “Jack” Ciszewski; and her cherished feline companion, GG. She leaves behind so many dear friends and extended family members, and the many people whose lives she touched and made better. Anne was born in South Amboy, NJ and grew up in a small neighborhood surrounded by her grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins; an incredibly loving community. As the eldest cousin, she got her start in looking after youngsters at an early age. Though her parents had to leave school to work and support their families, they made education a high priority for their children. Anne was always a great student and graduated at the top of her class at St. Mary’s High School. She went on to major in Elementary Education at Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey) where she earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree. Anne’s true calling was teaching. After earning her BA, she taught in Sayreville NJ. She and Fred married and settled in Ewing, NJ where he worked for the NJ Department of Transportation, and she taught in the Ewing school system. She went on teach second grade in various schools in Trenton: St. Stanislaus School, St. Hedwig’s School, and B.C. Gregory School, where she moved into Kindergarten. During her time at Gregory School, she opened her classroom to student teachers to help nurture them. In addition to being a teacher, Anne was a joiner and a doer. She volunteered so many hours to the American Red Cross and numerous other groups. She made sure to instill in her family the utmost importance of giving of oneself in service to others. Anne had many talents that she employed in her teaching. Her artistic abilities made for beautiful classroom displays and fun art projects. She had the uncanny ability to note and recall the important details of so many of the children she taught. On many occasions, she recognized her former students well after they had grown and become adults. Built into that ability was her capacity to see and bring out the best in people. She cared so deeply and gave so generously. Even after retiring from teaching, she continues to help young people in her life, and was a mentor to many. She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in West Trenton, she was active in a number of senior groups as well as DOTRA (Department of Transportation Retiree’s Association) and the West Trenton Garden Club. She also attended mass at St. David the King Church in West Windsor, where she felt so welcome. Anne moved to a retirement community where her artistic skills fully bloomed. First at Bear Creek and then Homestead at Hamilton, she was well known as The Lady Who Makes The Cards. She lovingly made her hand-drawn, hand-colored brilliant floral cards for all occasions – to welcome new residents to her communities, to thank the various people in her life for their kindness, to brighten their days and to comfort their sorrows. She was a member of the Resident Council at her communities, and made a point of getting to know her fellow residents, and also their family members. If she ever had any concern about her friends, she made sure to let their loved ones know. Always looking out for others, right before her sudden passing, she was at work on “Thank You” and “Have A Good Day” cards. She never stopped caring. Her incredibly generous and giving spirit will not be forgotten by those who were fortunate to have known her. Anne so loved flowers, but she also loved helping people. To honor her, please consider giving to your favorite charity, or helping to support future teachers at The College of New Jersey School of Education at https://community.tcnj.edu/17/give-now Relatives and friends are invited to attend Anne’s viewing on Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 1 to 3pm, and from 6pm to 9pm at the Murphy Funeral Home located at 935 Parkway Ave, Ewing, NJ 08618.
