The third child of Emilie Morris and John Francis Crosby, Elaine was born in Great Neck, NY and reared between Chevy Chase, MD and Spring Lake, NJ. She was a graduate of Georgetown Visitation Convent in Washington, DC and Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart in New York, NY. After her marriage to Henry Brown Murphy in 1950, Elaine moved to Trenton, NJ, where she quickly became committed to her adopted city. She was the founder of, and primary donor to, the Mercer County Food Bank and, along with her husband, was the inspirational founder and primary donor of The Village Charter School in Trenton, NJ. Over the years, she was a volunteer at many other community organizations, including the Junior League of Trenton, Martin House, Mt. Carmel Guild and Morris Hall. Elaine was predeceased by three brothers, John F. Crosby, Peter F. Crosby and James M. Crosby, and her beloved sister, Suzanne Crosby Murphy. In addition to her brother, William M. Crosby, she is survived by two daughters and three sons: Rosemary (Rusti) Murphy Kitts and her husband Stephen of Yardley, PA; Elaine Murphy Arnold and her husband Mark of Yardley, PA; Henry B. Murphy, Jr. and his wife Eileen of Princeton Junction, NJ; John C. Murphy and his wife Marcia of Coronado, CA; and Stephen M. Murphy of Coronado, CA. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Stephen R. Kitts (Jill Simeone), Emilie Kitts Ricker (Aaron), Kathryn Kitts Ghent (Stephen) and Elizabeth Kitts Catino (Brian); Suzanne M. Arnold (Soadad al-Obide) and James M. Arnold; Kathleen B. Murphy (Yonatan Gat), John F. Murphy and Patrick H. Murphy; and John (Jack) C. Murphy, Jr. Four great-grandchildren also survive her: Ava and Stella Kitts, Declan Ricker and Lila Gat. She also leaves behind many adored nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12 at M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Avenue, Ewing, NJ 08618. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on August 12 at 1:00 PM p.m. in the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
