Nora McGovern Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Nora "Tess" McGovern of Hamilton, affectionately known as "Mom Mom," was a beloved great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, wife, and friend during her incredible 97 years of life. She passed away peacefully in the early hours of Friday, March 4, 2022, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Castleisland, County Kerry, Ireland on October 27, 1924, and emigrated to the U.S. in 1953. Tess was formerly employed by the Lawrenceville School System. She was a member of the Sons and Daughters of Erin with whom she proudly marched in the annual Trenton St. Patrick's Day Parade. She loved Irish dancing and attending Irish dancing festivals with her friends. She enjoyed an Irish breakfast every morning, which always included marmalade on her toast. She also enjoyed playing the slots in Atlantic City and watching General Hospital. Tess especially loved hosting and spending time with family members who regularly visited her from Ireland. She was predeceased by her loving husband, John McGovern, after 56 years of marriage. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law Maureen and Mike Cook of Columbus; Patricia Gallagher of Hamilton; two granddaughters, Erin Woodhead and husband Ryan; Kerry Burke and husband Ryan; five great-grandchildren, Aidan, Caitlin, Nora, Stella, and Evan; her longtime friend Frances Nawn; and many nieces and nephews. Her family will carry on her beloved traditions of having Easter brunch and placing a coin and orange in their Christmas stockings.
