    Robert L. Gordon

    August 18, 1935 - November 4, 2017

    Robert L. Gordon, 82, of Ewing, passed away on November 4, 2017 in the home of beloved neighbors and friends, Marisa and Walter Henderson who were at his side along with his sister-in-law Elaine. He was born on August 18, 1935 to Leon O. Gordon and Ethel A. Nemethy, in Yonkers, NY. In 1942, his family moved to Jersey City, where he attended P.S. 7 and P.S. 28. Robert was also a graduate of Dickinson High School Class of 1953. In 1957 he attended the Jersey City Junior College where he received an Associate of Arts Degree in 1957. In 1958, he enlisted in the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War until being discharged in 1965. Among other jobs, he was a group leader at Camp Kilmer Job Corps from 1966-1967 when he enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at Rutgers University, matriculating with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Class of 1970. From June 1970 until retiring in 1997, he was employed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection where his focus was surface and ground water pollution cases. Robert was a volunteer at the Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve; a member of the Mercer County Master Gardeners and a runner for the Meals on Wheels in Ewing-Trenton. He was a parishioner of Incarnation-St. James Church, where he was a lector for many years and more recently a member of the choir. Robert was also active in the Garden State Storytellers League, the Torch Club of Trenton, two writers groups, and was a student of Tai Chi at the RWJ Health and Fitness Center of Hamilton. Robert is survived by his sister-in-law, Elaine Gordon, of East Brunswick, NJ; a nephew, Steven Gordon, of Colorado Springs, CO.; a beloved neighbors and friends, Marisa and Walter Henderson and the Zizwarek family; several cousins, and many dear friends and neighbors. May the peace of Heaven be upon them. Family and Friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Thursday, November 9, from 11AM-12PM at Incarnation Church, 1545 Pennington Road, Ewing, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the church at 12PM. Cremation will take place privately. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Robert's name to Garden State Storytellers League or the Torch Club of Trenton , please mail all correspondence to Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Avenue, Ewing 08618
